Peewee – Program Overview

Anthony Hunter – Peewee Convenor – peeweeconvenor@kmha.ca

My name is Anthony Hunter and I am your son’s Peewee house convenor for the 2011-2012 KMHA hockey season. I have three sons in Kanata house league hockey. Dylan is a minor peewee, Andrew is a minor bantam and Brad is a minor midget. This will be my fifth year in KMHA peewee and second year as peewee convenor, fifth year given Brad and Andrew have gone through two years each.  I also still play hockey. My wife Donna gets to be a big fan of hockey and four sets of smelly hockey equipment thrown in the basement. Between hockey and Kanata soccer, I think there are twenty nine or so seasons of my son’s sports teams. If I am not coaching my son’s team, I am always helping out in some capacity. It is way more fun being on the ice or field rather than sitting in the stands. Especially at 6:00 A.M. in a cold arena in February. Last year I coached Atom Ice Cobras A1 and assist coached with Peewee Black Ice B1 and Bantam Kaos C2.

Peewee Convenor’s Goals for the Season

Here are my goals for the KMHA 2011-2012 season.

  • My primary goal for the season is to ensure that each and every player has fun, fun and more fun. Making sure the players enjoy their hockey season is the only thing that truly matters. If the players have fun and want to continue playing hockey next year, the season will be a success.
  • To ensure the players have fun, my next responsibility is to ensure the teams are balanced equally. Every player needs to learn and experience the wins and losses. Nobody has fun loosing every game and winning every game equally deprives players and their teams of valuable hockey lessons.
  • My third goal is to ensure every team has a set of coaches and volunteers who will promote fun and development both on and off the ice. This obviously depends on the most challenging task of finding the right volunteers and have every parent help to make a successful team and season. Let me know how you can volunteer this season.

Mandatory equipment for Peewee

There are those that are new to ice hockey that may not have this information. Mandatory equipment information can be found on our KMHA Equipment Information page.

Peewee House Organization

Last year there were sufficient players for thirteen teams in peewee house. Three A, Seven B and Four C.
Sort-outs are used to balance the players into the thirteen teams.
Last year each level participated in an interlock league. Each Kanata team plays against different opponents for a greater challenge and an increase in fun since they play many teams at different rinks and not the same Kanata teams over and over.
Last year, peewee house A interlocked with the Nepean A, peewee house B interlocked with Stittsville B and peewee house C joined the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League with Stittsville and several other teams.
Peewee house will not join the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League, but the executive will arrange for interlock where possible.

Peewee House Schedule

There is no set schedule for hockey. Peewee is two and sometimes three times a week. Usually peewee is scheduled one game and one practice anytime during the week, weekends 6:00 AM until 8:00 PM weekends, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM weekdays.
